This Authentic Movement beginner workshop will be held at the peaceful and lush Learning Environment farm in Papaiti. Held on Sunday the 20th of November from 1 - 4.30 pm.

About the workshop:

This workshop is designed for womxn who are curious about self-expression through movement, or who would benefit from a healing and supportive group experience with other womxn, in nature. It is suitable for those who are completely new to Authentic Movement or have had some experience with it.

We’ll come together to gently explore our inner worlds through movement, and the art of witnessing. We’ll enjoy body presencing and grounding exercises, then explore the roles of ‘Mover’ and ‘Witness’, and finally practice Authentic Movement in pairs and as a group.

About the practice:

Authentic movement is a meditative and therapeutic Dance/Movement Therapy practice, started by Mary Whitehouse. The practice involves inter-changing roles of Mover and Witness. With their eyes closed the Mover moves spontaneously and authentically, exploring their inner landscape and embodied expression. The witness holds space for this movement and stays present with their own inner landscape in turn. At the close of the movement round, there is a chance for reflection, both artistic and verbal, before swapping over.

The practice of Authentic Movement supports us to connect fully to our own alive presence & experience, feeling into our physical sensations, our emotional state and our vivid imaginations, held with the support of a witness. This experience also supports us to notice our judgements and projections as they arise, and to begin the practice of accepting and transforming these.

It can be a truly empowering, surprising and beautifully intimate experience of self-discovery and supportive sharing.
